Musicus Bortnianskii
Myron Maksymiw, Conductor
2001
This Premiere
Recording - "Partesni Motets"- is but a small example of Ukrainian polyphonic
music of the 16th and 17th century. For the discriminating collector of choral
music, these anonymous 5 and 6 part works acquaint the listener with Ukraine's
musical past which, until very recently, has been unknown to us. The great vocal
and technical requirements of the Partesny Motet attest to the very high
standard of choral music and performance of its day. Written for the general
audience which was already familiar with the musical intonations and idioms of
the times, these works speak to us in the language of 16th and 17th century
Ukraine.
